In order to be able to buy a villa or a land in Freehold and enjoy a total ownership in Bali, you will have to go through the creation of an Indonesian company : the PT-PMA type (Penanaman Modal Asing). It is not possible for a non-Indonesian citizen to buy trough their own name although many agents advertise to promote it.

 

At least two shareholders are required (the president director and the president commissioner) for the creation of a PT-PMA in Bali. At least one of the shareholders must be a foreign natural person or a foreign legal entity (such as a company, for example). The director must have a permanent residence in Indonesia to take care of the activities. The foreigner who works and resides in Indonesia will easily obtain a tax identification number (NPWP) and a work permit (KITAS).
